What the Society Does
The Scottish Society of Playwrights (SSP) develops and promotes the interests and craft of professional playwrights and playwriting within Scottish theatre and also abroad.
It is a professional member’s organisation affiliated to the STUC, and party to the TMA playwright’s agreement in England, and is managed by its members and an elected council. It operates predominantly as a lobbying and representative body - it lobbies the collective interests of its members and represents individual professional playwrights in discrepancies and talks with employers and funding organisations. It occasionally organises public events.
It has been responsible for the current FST/SSP Minimum Agreement for the commissioning of a play in Scotland. It has also developed with the FST A Best Practice Guide. Both of these are available on request from either the FST or SSP.
