In 2019 the SSP created the Hector MacMillan Award for Best New Scottish Play. This is an annual award in memory of one of our founding members, past Chair and latterly Honorary Life President who died in 2018.

As well as a distinguished playwright himself, Hector was a passionate champion of new writing. Uniquely, this award for Best New Scottish Play is an accolade from fellow playwrights. The award is voted on by members and presented at the Society's AGM.
