Statement from the COUNCIL of the Scottish Society of PlaywrightsThe Scottish Society of Playwrights (SSP) utterly rejects the poisons of both antisemitism and Islamophobia, and resolves to oppose all forms of hate and discrimination in both our sector and society at large. As playwrights we stand for the celebration and flourishing of all cultures, and resolutely against any conditions that render this flourishing impossible.
The SSP therefore endorses and supports the recent statements made by the Scottish Government and STUC (see below), and those by our sister unions and colleagues, and adds its voice to the calls for an immediate ceasefire and an immediate release of all hostages to safety as a first step towards a lasting settlement that unambiguously recognises the rights, dignity and humanity of the people of Palestine and Israel alike, and towards a future in which all cultures can mutually thrive.
